Is the unseen hand of organized religion manipulating the collective consciousness to think socialism is evil?

It’s mainly conservatives who are branding their opposition ‘socialists’ in recent times and conservatives are generally the most religious people in society. So does this mean that organized religion has a motive for trying to scare the collective consciousness into thinking that any form of socialism is inherently evil and should be opposed at all costs? If so, what possible motives would there be; is organized religion worried that it might have less wealth and power the more socialized our economy becomes? Does organized religion prefer dealing with capitalist consumers because capitalist consumers are ‘dumbed down’ and manipulated by advertising which is just like how organized religion 'dumbs down' and manipulates its flocks of fools?
