How did Jennings Osborne become wealthy?

All I could find were references to a "medical research facility", but nothing about the sort of research, where it's located, if he's "self-made" or inherited anything...just seeing if anyone has any info. The guy is loaded, funds a Disney World attraction that started as his daughter's request for Christmas lights on their house. There's a wikipedia entry for the Christmas lights, but none for the guy himself.
